Why are you sad about Paul and Yaya? She is clever and nice but listens to him and he is not intelligent and pretends to be nice, everybody in Changchun thinks he is crazy man i think English say two faces man.

You're an Akast! My Mum's maiden name was Akast, and you do actually share a resemblance to my uncle Peter Akast.

Do you know anything about your Akast family tree 'cousin'? I assume you are related to the late 18th century Baker, Charles Akast, as so far my research with every single Akast leads back to him.

Looking good Mr. Akast, looking good.....J

Mr Akast,

Rumours are that you have bought a place in China, so I guess that means your plan to be in the UK more often is off?!

Keep in touch, even mass emails appreciated once on a while....

Your travels are fascinating and your pictures are exquisite.   I've been to Changchun, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong also.   I'd love to go to all those places again and more but I don't have the money or time.   How do you afford to travel so much?

Sincerely,
Greg

So when does the book come out? "Follow Dave through China" I think is has a special ring to it. I loved the photos and wonder what the heck I'm doing in China.   I hope to see you again someday.   If you're ever in Shanghai you can stay at my place.   Although I won't be able to show you much around town, I really havn't seen much.   Man I gotta get out more.

Awwww!   Alice and Jesse are married!!! I was an assistant manager in 2001 (when there was only one school in Jinan), and they were the absolute best.   It was so good to see pictures of their wedding, and to see the Aston crew from later on.

I also worked with Wayne and Brendan that signed the guest book below.   I'm getting all sentimental just thinking about the great times I had with folks like them.   Thanks for posting great photos -- they really represent the China that I know and love.

David!

Hosuk Lee-Makiyama here, from Stockholm -- with all the damnation to you for repeated failure (criminal negligence, maybe even intent) to keep in touch. However, I am pleased, if not thrilled, to see you managed to stay alive and out of trouble.

Seriously, it's been too long and I really hope to see you in near future. Either back home in Dear Old Blighty or if I visit China. Per Kristian also sends his best regards.

Keep in touch,

H.

I have landed on your webpage whilst serching some information about Dalian.   I'm going to visit Dalian soon - most likely this weekend.   I was a bit worried about going to China by myself as this is my first trip to China but as soon as I saw your pictures I can't wait any more to explore it!   Thank you a lot.

Do you remember how much a single room rate of the Dalian Hotel was?

DAVE!!
Weird, was just suggesting a mate to check out AES when I found the link to your photos! BASTARD! Been back in oz, for 6 months and just when i had forgotten all about China, your photos stir all those emotions again, the smell, my favourite dishes (yu xiang qie zi, tang cu li ji!) and of course that awful food poisoning bout from the xinjiang fandian zai kai fa qu. I miss it and I miss it all! I miss my china home, Qingdao I'll never forget it but i wonder if i'll ever make it back there, if not there maybe somewhere else in China. Not sure when I'll be back. I've promised myself the uk, cuba and iceland this year....oh well...an office job sucks so make sure you dont go home and get one!
cya when i get to the uk, if you're there.

Great pictures, you really have a photographic eye. Just returned from an 8 day trip to Beijing and Shanghai, and am now exploring teaching in China. It looks like you and your friends have been having a wonderful time and visiting lots of the country.   Thanks   Bill H

Dave,
We've been to so many of the same places with AES I'm surpirsed we never met!!   Why do all the pictures I have of Mike T look like the one you have - out at some restaurant with beer bottles around.   Some things never change.

Dear Dave,

Thank you for these wonderful pictures of Changchun China. I left Changchun for USA to attend undergraduate school right after I graduated from Changchun No.11 high school in 1986 and I have not returned for a visit since. 17 years later, with one undergraduate degree, one masters degree, a solid career, a wife and a home under my belt, I am finally begining to think about going back to visit along with my wife. This is when I started looking for pictures of Changchun on the internet   and I found yours! They are great! Thank you!

Useful pictures for a TEFLer thinking about China.
I'm applying for jobs now.
I particulaarly liked the snow sculpture teletubbies. Remember this as a quick EFL explanation of the meaning of the word "naff".

I was feeling so good about being home until I saw your recent photos and now I feel bad for missing so much of the summer with trips to the zoo, the lake, the beer festival. Damn! Ah well, next year in Changchun?
